Kanga Foundation Tanzania and Tanzania Health Opportunities partnered to provide menstrual health education and sanitary pad support to more than 600 girls at Bright Future Girls' Secondary School in Mvuti, Dar es Salaam.
Event Story
On 23 September 2026, Kanga Foundation Tanzania visited Bright Future Girls' Secondary School in Mvuti, Dar es Salaam, together with Tanzania Health Opportunities (THO), continuing their partnership to support girls' menstrual health, dignity and education.
The team arrived with sanitary pads for more than 600 girls. Before the distribution began, Tanzania Health Opportunities conducted a menstrual health education session designed to give students practical and accurate information about menstruation.
The session covered the menstrual cycle, what is normal and what may require further attention, personal hygiene, and the safe use and disposal of sanitary pads. What began as a quiet and slightly shy room gradually became an open conversation as students gained confidence to raise questions and participate in the discussion.
The programme demonstrated the importance of combining menstrual products with health education. Providing sanitary pads addresses an immediate practical need, while accurate information helps girls understand their bodies, challenge myths and manage menstruation safely and confidently.
The visit also carried special meaning for Linda Hakim Kanga, who joined the Kanga Foundation Tanzania team during the programme. Linda is a former student of Bright Future Girls' Secondary School and returned to the school while in her final year of studying to become a doctor.
Her return to Bright Future offered students an example of the opportunities that education can create and reinforced the importance of supporting girls to remain healthy, confident and engaged in their studies.
Representing Kanga Foundation Tanzania during the programme were Philemon Diaz Matoi, Galus Njuvu and Linda Hakim.
Kanga Foundation Tanzania extends its appreciation to the teachers and staff of Bright Future Girls' Secondary School for welcoming the team and supporting the programme. The Foundation also thanks Tanzania Health Opportunities and its volunteers for delivering practical menstrual health education and supporting the day's activities.
Most importantly, Kanga Foundation Tanzania thanks the students for their openness, participation and willingness to ask questions. Their confidence and enthusiasm made the programme meaningful and reinforced the importance of continuing menstrual health education and practical support for girls across Tanzania.
